Bauxite ore is the primary source of aluminium worldwide. It mainly consists of hydrated aluminium oxides, along with varying amounts of iron oxide, silica, and typically, titania. The major bauxite minerals are Diaspore (α-AlO(OH)), Boehmite (γ-AlO(OH)), and Gibbsite (Al(OH)₃).
In India, Gibbsite-rich bauxite is commonly found in the form of lumps, boulders, and pebbles with variegated colours. These deposits are typically located in the tropical and subtropical regions of Gujarat.
